How to Get Rid of Spiders

Spiders are both scary yet fascinating creatures. It is interesting to note that the silk threads they use to weave their webs are stronger and tougher than steel for their weight. Around the world spider species number in their thousands. In North America alone, there are more than 3400 species of spiders. Just by virtue of their population, it is no wonder that a few are likely to wander off into our homes.
Generally spiders prefer to be outside, however with the changing seasons, they have need to find warmer shelter and therefore make their way into someone’s home. While one would want to be hospitable, spiders are not the best looking animals and they can strike fear in the bravest of souls. Depending on the species, some are huge while others are small. Some are huge with hairy bodies and tend to jump, which is just downright scary, while the small types don’t look to menacing. Either way most people are not thrilled to have them in their homes. There are a number of ways one can use to get rid of spider in the home.
1. General clean up
Giving the house a thorough clean is a great way to deter spider and get those that have settle in packing. Simply cleaning nooks and crannies helps. The reason is spiders will select areas that are least reachable to set up a home because there is less likelihood of being disturbed. Vacuum cleaning isolated dusty areas such as the garage and store is often a good idea as it removes cobwebs. Cleaning cracks and corners will send the spider packing. Make sure to clean the yard as well and get rid of piles of dirt or logs and general debris around the house. Cleaning will get rid of spiders naturally.
2. Chemicals
Over and above cleaning, one can also go a step further and use some chemicals to further deter and expel spiders from the home. Just be sure to use gloves when applying dust-form chemicals to kill spiders. There are also good quality sprays that can be bought over the counter for killing and repelling spiders.
3. Getting rid of insect and bugs
One of the best ways of ensuring that spiders don’t come to your home and getting the ones already there to leave, is denying them food. Lighting in the house or compound often attracts insects and bugs. Insects and bugs in turn attract spiders as they are their food. Changing to lighting that does not attract insects will help lessen the attraction of spiders as well.
Conclusion
Cleanliness alone can go a long way to getting rid of spiders in the home. After cleaning, one should also use powder form spider repellant in isolated and less frequented areas of the house such as garages and stores to further help in getting rid of spider. If DIY does not work, then calling a professional pest controller should be the next cause of action.
